How biology directs action

Choosing the appropriate course of action for a given situation is a fundamental purpose of the brain - and an organizing principle for its structure and function. We investigate the function of different brain areas and neurotransmitter systems during decision-making behavior to gain insight into the biology of human cognition.

Our research

Recording neural activity at the source

We deploy novel invasive techniques, such as intracranial EEG, to examine and manipulate activity across multiple human brain areas at groundbreaking speed and detail.

Our methods

Brain disorders as disruptors of choice

People with psychiatric conditions like depression and anxiety often make pathological choices. By understanding the behavioral and biological foundations of these decisions, we can open doors to new treatments for patients.
